About this tour

TOUR SUMMARY
  • Jeep visit to the Estate, visit to the wine cellar and lunch paired with 6 Tapada de Coelheiros wines
  • Visit to ancient vineyards and olive trees with commented wine tasting of 3 wines accompanied by charcuterie board

On this tour, get to know wineries whose mission is exemplary focused on sustainability. Wineries that practice agriculture and wine production in a biological and regenerative approach, even though they are very different examples between them.

The guided tour of MaiNova in a pick up truck will show you the vineyards, the ancient olive trees and also the winery and the entire production process and, whenever possible, even the packaging. This is followed by a light lunch to calmly enjoy the traditional flavors of Alentejo in an informal and relaxed atmosphere harmonized by Mai Nova wines.

The guided jeep tour of Tapada de Coelheiros’ 800 hectares will last around 1 hour and will show the estate’s various productions, including cork oaks, nuts, vineyards, fruit trees, hunting areas, etc. Finish with a commented tasting of 5 Tapada de Coelheiro’s wines.

TAPADA DE COELHEIROS

Created in 1981, Herdade dos Coelheiros is a family-owned company that, over the years, has achieved recognition for the production of wines of unquestionable quality, both nationally and internationally. Its history of excellence began with the launch of the first wine labeled Tapada de Coelheiros in 1991.

The organic farming approach they carry out is a commitment for the company. Chemical synthesis products are not used, but instead, subtle crop management practices are used.

Less is more – and at the winery this maxim is taken very seriously. The focus is on manual work, the quality of the wood and respect for each thing’s time. On a reduced production scale, parcel vinification and prolonged bottle aging are carried out.

We respect the raw material, monitoring and managing it with respect and detail, with minimal use of technology. Gentle aging in wood takes time and requires patience – and this dedication can be felt in the wines.

There are a total of 9 vineyards that have an organic certificate in common but, other than that, none of them are the same, they are all unique. There are vineyards that are four decades old and others that are months old. The soils vary: some are more sandy and loamy, others clayey, some have a granite base, others quartz. There are 53 scattered hectares, 60% rainfed. Native grape varieties and those with better acidity levels or lower alcohol content are favored.

The varieties present: Alicante Bouschet (AB), Touriga Franca (TF), Touriga Nacional (TN), Cabernet Sauvignon (CS), Petit Verdot (PV), Tinta Miuda (TM), Syrah (S), Arinto (A), Roupeiro (R), Antão Vaz (AV), Chardonnay (C), Alvarinho (AL).

In Tapada de Coelheiros there are also 650 hectares of cork oak forests, 2 hectares of traditional olive groves, walnut orchards and a pine forest.

MAI NOVA

Mainova is a family project, respectful of nature, dedicated to working with and improving the best raw materials that mother nature can provide every year.

Herdade da Fonte Santa has centuries of conservation and improvement of its soil, which combines with experience in the best practices and processes. It is here, where shale, granite and a unique ecosystem meet, that a highly specialized team works to generate the best products that the region can offer.

In total, there are 20 hectares of vineyards and 90 hectares of olive groves – made up of a unique area of centuries-old and ancient olive trees.

It is in this context and with this commitment that MAINOVA was born, an authentic, innovative, sustainable brand, which toasts to the future without ever forgetting the heritage, traditions and truths of the past.
